Unlike many buyout firms, WCAS emphasizes the growth of acquired businesses and ultimately seeks its financial returns through access to the public stock market. Mr. Carson has focused on WCAS’s healthcare investment activities and is currently a director of three portfolio companies.

From 1983 to 1999, Mr. Miller served as President and COO of EmCare Holdings, Inc., and prior to that, he held financial and management positions in the health care industry. Mr. Miller is also a Director of Lincare Holdings Inc. (Nasdaq: LNCR), a provider of oxygen and other respiratory therapy services, Chamberlin Edmonds, a provider of eligibility services for hospitals, and Pioneer Surgical Technology, a manufacturer of spinal and orthopedic implants.

Dr. Michael Shrift is Chief Medical Information Officer and Vice President, Clinical Knowledge Management at Allina Health and Hospitals, Minneapolis, Minnesota.  Allina, an eleven hospital, one hundred clinic integrated delivery network, has attained national prominence through leadership in patient care quality and safety.  This is facilitated by the Excellian implementation, a technology suite including the Epic EMR  that earned Allina the Davies Award in 2007.  Dr. Shrift joined Allina in September 2008 to leverage Excellian for patient care workflow, quality and safety improvements.   His teams have rolled out real-time best practice decision support tools and algorithms (Guardrails and Cattleprods) that advance core measure and national patient safety goal compliance.  These were presented at the Epic International Users’ Group as first to market innovations.  They have contributed to Allina attaining best-in-nation diabetes care.

Lisa Zuckerman

Lisa Zuckerman is VP, Treasury Services at Catholic Healthcare West (CHW), the fourth largest not-for-profit healthcare system in the US.  CHW operates 41 hospitals in California, Arizona and Nevada, with nearly $9 billion in revenue and over $11 billion in assets. Lisa’s responsibilities include management of CHW’s nearly $5 billion investment portfolio, as well as debt and capital structure management, investor relations, and oversight of cash management functions. Prior to joining CHW, Lisa Zuckerman spent ten years at Standard & Poor’s Corporation, most recently as a Director in Standard & Poor’s San Francisco office, as health care sector leader for the western region.  Lisa served on the Board of the National Federation of Municipal Analysts (NFMA), and is past chair of the California Society of Municipal Analysts.
