Prior to co-founding HEP, Mr. Cain was a General Partner of CB Health Ventures’ two funds, CB Healthcare Fund (1997) and CB Healthcare Fund II (2001).  Mr. Cain was a founder and CEO of Cain Brothers where he currently serves as a Managing Director as well as a member of its Executive Committee.  Established in 1982, Cain Brothers has developed broad-based client relationships with many of the nation’s largest hospitals, integrated delivery networks, physician practices, and insurance payors. 

Mr. Cain is a director of Brim Holding Company, Inc., a CBHF II company; Sheridan Healthcare, Inc. (a HEP company); and served as a director of eBenX, Inc., prior to its acquisition by SHPS.  He is also a director of several non-portfolio companies, including CDC Nvest Funds; Loomis, Sayles Funds; and Universal Health Realty Income Trust (NYSE: UHT).  He is board president of the Norman Rockwell Museum and a member of the American Heart Association and Brown University School of Medicine boards.

Mr. Cain is a graduate of Brown University (1968) and Columbia University Graduate School of Business (1972), where he serves on its Board of Overseers.

  • Sheridan Holdings – Outsourced physician staffing and administrative services

  • Brim Healthcare – Owner/operator of community acute-care hospitals 

  • ConnectiCare (acquired by HIP Health Plan June 2004) – Health plan serving Connecticut and Western Massachusetts

  • EBenX, Inc. (IPO December 1999, acquired by SHPS February 2003) – Provides technology-based solutions for group health and welfare benefits
